ZIM is bigger than a ship or company; it’s the economy of the entity and its supply fleet

The post written by the spokesman for the Houthi forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, sparked a debate on social media platforms and speculation about the target. However, the closest reference to the three letters, ZIM, is the Israeli shipping giant and one of the world’s largest naval fleets, “ZIM” “Integrated Shipping Services”. So, what do we know about this company, and why does Sana’a consider it a top target?

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

ZIM has approximately 30,000 clients worldwide in 100 countries, operating through 350 ports around the globe. The Asia-Europe route via the Red Sea is one of its most significant shipping routes, connecting the entity with East Asia, Australia, and East African countries. Additionally, the company provides transportation services from these regions to European countries.

Just days ago, the company announced that it was deploying its vessels to serve what it described as the Israeli enemy’s national effort. It also announced that it would use chartered vessels rather than owned ones to avoid targeting by Yemen, according to an interview with its CEO, Eli Glickman.

The reference made by the spokesman for the Sana’a forces to the company does not pertain to past operations, as some media outlets have claimed, as the Deputy Director of the Moral Guidance Department in Sana’a clarified that there is no connection between what happened in the Indian Ocean and what the official spokesman of the Yemeni armed forces posted on his page (ZIM). The attack occurred and ended. As for what he published, it has something to do with what (may) happen.

It is still unclear whether there is a new operation, and no official comment has been issued by the Yemeni forces. However, what is understood so far is that the camouflage methods employed by the company have not succeeded in front of the Yemeni forces. Sources confirm that Sana’a has obtained sufficient information regarding all the ships used by the Israeli entity, whether owned or chartered. This would enable them to completely halt navigation for these vessels in the Red Sea.

Brigadier General Bin Amer stated, “ZIM seems to be more than just a company or a group of companies involved in shipping and transportation to and from the entity. It is much bigger than that. The Israeli enemy uses it for both declared and undisclosed purposes, and what has been published about it is only a fraction of its reality, significance, activities, and connections. It is up to the Israeli side to pursue a permanent ceasefire.”

Economists in the enemy entity argue that closing navigation for Israeli ships in the Red Sea would result in an unprecedented economic collapse, shortages of food supplies, and food security, as they heavily rely on East Asian countries as a primary source of imports.
