The UAE continued its escalation on Thursday at the Saudi border with Yemen, coinciding with international efforts for de-escalation, in order to advance the peace file.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Tribal sources in the Hadhramaut oil plateau reported that a military column belonging to the so-called “Hadhrami Elite,” supervised by Emirati officers, infiltrated in recent hours into areas of the valley, where factions supported by Saudi Arabia, known as the “Hadhramaut Protection Force,” led by Amr bin Habrish, are deployed.
The sources confirmed that clashes erupted between the two sides, after which the column was forced to withdraw.
The Second Military Region, stationed in Al-Mukalla, had earlier issued a statement claiming that the confrontations occurred after tribal gunmen ambushed the Elite forces during their sweeping operation in the area.
This is the first time Hadhramaut, which holds geographical weight, enjoys oil wealth, and has strategic depth along the Saudi border, has witnessed confrontations between factions with divergent regional allegiances.
The confrontations come in the context of an international movement to calm the situation between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi in Yemen.
The capital, Riyadh, hosted a new diplomatic movement in this path on Wednesday.
According to a statement from his embassy, the Russian Ambassador to Yemen renewed his emphasis on the necessity of considering the views of the main parties in Yemen during a meeting that brought him together with the UN Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, a day after a similar meeting with the Emirati Ambassador.
The UN envoy had carried out a shuttle tour between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi in an attempt to de-escalate.
These developments suggest that the efforts to reduce the disagreements between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh have failed.
