United Nations: Destruction of health infrastructure and shortages of supplies are hindering the expansion of medical care in Gaza

The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, warned that shortages of basic supplies and widespread destruction of infrastructure during two years of war in the Gaza Strip are severely hindering efforts to expand health services for the population.

In a press briefing on Monday, Dujarric said the humanitarian situation in Gaza is “extremely dire,” despite ongoing relief efforts, noting that health and humanitarian needs are increasing at a rate that exceeds the capacity of organizations working on the ground.

He explained that the humanitarian coordinator stressed the need to allow aid to be entered without restrictions, and to enable organizations and partners to deliver medical and humanitarian supplies to the sector without hindrance. This UN warning comes at a time when the Israeli occupation, since October 7, 2023, committed genocide in the Gaza Strip, including murder, starvation, destruction and displacement, ignoring international calls and the orders of the International Court of Justice to stop these crimes.
