Sana’a revealed on Wednesday its options, to confront the recent US decision to put “Anssarallah” on the sanctions list, in a move that may put the new administration in the United States, in front of only two options.
A member of the Supreme Political Council, the largest governing body in Sana’a, Muhammad Ali Al-Houthi, waved to impose new measures in the sea lanes of Yemen, referring to Bab al-Mandab, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and up to the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.
He said in a tweet on his official page on social media that the movement will study with the supreme Political Council and the rescue Government, to use the sea lanes as a land belonging to the Republic of Yemen. In reference to Bab al-Mandab, which is witnessing an international race on control, it is the second most important sea corridor around the world, 40% of the volume trade exchange around the world passes through it and nearly 60% of oil exports around the world.
Although this decision was waved by the former president, Saleh Al-Samad, its timing indicates that Sana’a will push to close the sea lane or impose strict measures, which will complicate the American movement in the region and affect the movement of its marines there.
In the context, Al-Houthi revealed that demonstrations are expected on the 25th of this month, the anniversary of the movement’s official control on Sana’a, after Hadi’s resignation and the power vacuum there. He called on countries of the world to participate in it, in support to lift the siege on Yemen and rejecting “aggression”, referring to the war led by Saudi Arabia and UAE with the participation of the United States, which is approaching its seventh year.
These steps indicate that Sana’a is heading towards escalating options, in the face of recent US decisions, that aim to exacerbate humanitarian suffering by tightening commercial traffic and restricting the work of humanitarian organizations, which complicates the path of the new US President Joe Biden administration and puts him in front of a difficult test, either to implement his promises, to cancel the last decision or face more Escalation in the region.
