Irritated Protesters Block Main Streets in Mukalla

Furious protesters are blocking a major road to the city port of al-Mukalla, the capital of Yemen’s southern Hadhramaut province, for the second day in a row, in protest against ongoing power outages.

A local source said that protesters are blocking the port road in Khalaf, area adjacent to the port of Mukalla in an unprecedented step to put pressure on the local authority to solve the problem of power outages.

The power outage coincided with high temperatures in coastal areas, touching 40 degrees in some areas.

This comes at a time of escalating calls in Aden for popular demonstrations against power outages, poor services and salary cuts.
