Marib: Islah Troops Torture Captive to Death

Sana’a-based National Center for Returnees condemned on Monday the crime of torturing to death of captive Kahlan Abdul Hakim al-Rumim by the Islah forces in the prisons of Marib province.

During the implementation of an exchange deal with Saudi-sponsored forces two weeks ago, the committee was surprised to receive al-Rumim’s body with physical effects of torture, and after a post-mortem examination by the forensic doctor, it was confirmed that al-Rumim have been killed under torture, the committee said in a statement.

The Center held the leadership of Saudi coalition and its agents in Marib moral and legal responsible for the crime and the previous crimes against prisoners.

The repetition of such crimes against prisoners was the result of the silence of the United Nations and its organizations operating in Yemen, despite the Commission’s knowledge of all those crimes, as well as the criminal conduct of Saudi-backed gangs in Marib and elsewhere.

The Committee called on the UN envoy to condemn this crime and put pressure on the forces of Saudi coalition to stop criminal practices against prisoners, to implement the Sweden Agreement and to conduct a comprehensive and complete exchange of all prisoners.

It also called on all local and international organizations to condemn and prosecute these crimes.

It is noteworthy that the authorities  in Marib committed a similar crime at the beginning of this month by torturing Hamid Hammoud Ghalib Abu Halfa to death.
