Sana’a Condemns UN’s Decision to List Anssarallah Among Violators of Children Rights

Foreign Minister of Sana’a Salvation Government, Hisham Sharaf condemned on Saturday the decision of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, not to include the Saudi-led coalition in the list of violators of children’s rights, and deliberately included Anssarallah on the list.

The foreign minister pointed out that although the United Nations is the organization entrusted with the defense of basic human rights, including children, as stated in its charter, it turns a blind eye to the targeting of population areas by the Saudi coalition countries that have killed and wounded about 8,000 children since March 26, 2015.

He noted that the countries of Saudi-led coalition and their loyalists have recruited thousands of children and plunged them into battles, targeted schools and hospitals, and impeded humanitarian access, in addition to other grave violations of children’s rights.

“Guterres did not take into account the appeals made by dozens of regional and international human rights organizations in this context, ignoring all reports and video and documented data about the coalition targeting of population centers,” Sharaf said.

He stressed that the UN Secretary-General’s decision represents the final nail in the coffin of the mechanism established by the Security Council to deter violators of children’s rights in various countries of the world.

The Foreign Minister reiterated that the National Salvation Government in Sana’a respected its obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law to protect and promote the rights of Yemeni children and not to involve them in any military actions.

For his part, the spokesperson for Sana’a Government of National Salvation, Minister of Information, Daifallah Al-Shami, condemned the decision of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, which classified Ansaarallah on the list of violators of children’s rights.

The government spokesman referred to the horrific massacres committed by the Saudi-led coalition over the past six years against children, women and children.

He asked, “Where is the role of the United Nations and its Secretary-General in what is happening to the children of Yemen?” Not to include the US-backed Saudi-led coalition and the Israel on the black list of violators of children’s rights.”

Al-Shami pointed out that the UN resolution is a clear hypocrisy and comes within the framework of granting Guterres a second term as Secretary-General of the United Nations.

He stated that the United Nations removed Saudi Arabia from the blacklist of violators of children’s wealth in Yemen after it pressured former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, that it would stop the financial support.

The spokesman stressed that it would have been better for the UN organization to work to lift the siege on Yemen, which causes the death of children every day, as well as to stop the massacres committed by the Saudi coalition against Yemeni children, pointing out that the United Nations is not impartial and works for the benefit of the major countries and is working to implement its agenda.

Al-Shami called on the national and foreign media and activists in various countries of the world to expose the crimes of the Saudi coalition against the children of Yemen since the beginning of the war, so that the world would see the extent of the humanitarian catastrophe and expose the United Nations’ condoning of it in the service of the forces of arrogance and global wealth.

In turn, Ministry of Human rights in Sana’a affirmed on Saturday that the United Nations has become a tool of the United States of America, and Guterres’ recent decision against Ansar Allah is contrary to the UN standards.

Acting Minister, Ali Al-Dailami, said in a statement, that the secretary-general of the United Nations António Guterres’ decision to put “Ansar Allah” on the list of violators of children’s rights shows a process of blackmail.

“Guterres’ decision is considered a political scandal for the United Nations, and it has served the agenda of the Saudi-led coalition countries, led by the United States,” he added.
