Yemeni Child Dies Every 10 Minutes: UN Warn

The United Nation said that one child dies every 10 minutes from preventable causes, including malnutrition and vaccine-preventable diseases in Yemen.

“About 21 million, including 11.3 million children are in need humanitarian assistance to survive.  Some 2.3 million children are acutely malnourished and 400,000 children under age five suffer from severe acute malnutrition,” the UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore said at a UN Security Council meeting on Monday.

She added that more than 10 million children and close to 5 million women cannot properly access health services.

“In Yemen, one child dies every 10 minutes from preventable causes, including malnutrition and vaccine-preventable diseases,” she said.

UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Assistance Coordinator Martin Griffiths said food prices in Yemen have increased more than threefold and fuel prices four times higher than before the war.
