The new head of the United Nations mission to support the Hodeida Agreement (UNMHA), Irish Major General Michael Perry, officially took on Wednesday over his duties in Hodieda province.
Dec 24, 2021, the Secretary-General of the UN announced the appointment of retired Irish Major General Michael Peary as head of the UNMHA in the province.
Perry, who was appointed as the chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC), succeeds retired Indian General Abhijit Guha.
He was formed to monitor the ceasefire in Hodeida, according to the Stockholm Agreement signed at the end of 2018.
For 40 years, Major General Perry has participated in foreign deployments and UN peace missions in countries such as Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Iraq, Somalia and Uganda, in addition to heading the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon.
