Al-Sabeen Maternity and Childhood Hospital in the capital, Sana’a, has warned of a major humanitarian disaster as a result of stopping its services due to the detention of oil derivatives.
Director of the hospital, Dr. Magda Al-Khatib, said in a press statement on Wednesday that the hospital services are about to stop completely within days due to the siege imposed by the Saudi-led coalition and preventing the arrival of oil derivatives to Yemen.
Al-Khatib stressed that the detention of oil derivatives and preventing their access to the Yemeni people is a humanitarian crime and a death sentence on the health sector in Yemen.
She pointed out that the hospital daily receives thousands of children and women, who need observation in intensive care, nurseries, operations and the provision of oxygen.
Al-Khatib affirmed that the continuation of the siege on oil derivatives would force the hospital to reduce its services and stop some.
“The suspension of hospital services means stopping 60 incubators and the death of their children, stopping more than 200 women in obstetric emergencies, as well as stopping 20 caesarean deliveries per day.”
She added, “Whoever talks about the death of two children and a mother every hour in Yemen, this number will double a lot, and a major humanitarian catastrophe will occur with unimaginable consequences due to the siege.”
The statement held the coalition forces, the United Nations and the international community full responsibility for stopping services at Al-Sabeen Hospital and other hospitals.
