Tribal Militants Control Oil Fields in Shabwah

Tribal armed men loyal to UAE took control on Sunday, of Shabwah province, southeast of Yemen, on the most important oil fields in Shabwah, after limited confrontations with factions affiliated with UAE.

Exclusive-Alkhabar Alyemeni:

Tribal sources in Baihan reported that the clashes that erupted early this morning had stopped, after the militants of Belharith, the district’s largest tribe, succeeded in arresting oil companies operating in the district.

The sources accused Ali Mohsen and the forces of the Third Military Region in Marib of fueling the fighting between the giants’ factions deployed in the district, and the security forces of oil companies and the tribes.

Two days ago, belharith tribes gave Safer Company two days to solve the problem of raising fuel prices.

The company has already tried to discuss an agreement with the armed tribes by offering a local mediation led by Sheikhs Ali Al-Hajri Al-Harthy and Nasser Diriham Al-Harthy. Where they offered an agreement that includes the arrival of a locomotive every 5 days with about 30,000 tons of diesel for sale at the official price 3400 riyals to the tribes of Belharith, but the tribes insist on pumping 45,000 liters of diesel daily to the district.

Although the developments seem to carry human rights demands, their timing also carries dimensions related to the international and regional conflict, to acquire the province’s revenues from oil and gas, especially since American companies operate in the region.
