Transport Minister in Sana’a government Abdul Wahab al-Durra reiterated on Sunday the UN envoy’s demand for Yemen to operate daily flights to Amman and Cairo through Sana’a International Airport, given the growing need for passengers, especially patients.
The Minister of Transport stressed in a statement to Sana’a-based Saba news agency that flights should be conducted on a daily basis from Sana’a to Amman and Cairo during the remainder of the humanitarian truce so that citizens and patients, in particular, can travel.
“As soon as Yemen Airways opened the booking for the Friday (May 27th) flight, all seats were booked within 15 minutes, including 80 medical conditions, and all seats were reserved for the return flight from Amman to Sana’a,” he said.
The minister of transport pointed out that the reason for the lack of passengers during the previous two flights from Jordan is the cancellation of the first flight scheduled for April 24 in accordance with the humanitarian truce, which led to the departure of some passengers and caused trouble and losses to those arriving.
“As a result of the implementation of the go and return flights from Sana’a to Amman, the next two flights on Wednesday and Friday 25-27 May will be fully full, underscoring the need to operate flights on a daily basis,” he said.
The minister blamed the United Nations and the Saudi-led Coalition for the deliberate slowdown and delay of flights designated for the humanitarian truce, the most important of which is the conduct of 16 flights to Amman and Cairo. He called for the permanent opening of Yemeni airports and ports as a right for all citizens in accordance with international and humanitarian laws, and conventions.
