In a statement, the Union called on all Yemeni parties to accept the extension of the armistice for six months.

The statement of the union came a day after five-party meeting organized by the British Foreign Office virtually in the Sultanate of Oman and devoted to discussing the extension of the armistice in Yemen. This indicates the failure of the meeting, which did not issue a final statement, except for an Omani statement to talk about new discussions on Yemen.

The meeting was chaired by Amanda Milling, Minister of State for Middle East Affairs at the British Foreign Office, representatives from the Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States participated in it, in the presence of the Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grodenberg, it is an extension to the meetings held by US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of a new summit, in which he spoke of a desire to extend the armistice.

In this context, Reuters quoted on an official in the office of UN envoy as saying that the current movement aims to extend the truce, which expires on August two, for an additional six months, but it hinted at complications in the new endeavor.

In the first comment on what’s going on behind the scenes, a member of Sana’a negotiating delegation, Abdul-Malik Al-Ajri, refused to talk about extending the truce in its current form, describing in a tweet on his official page the reduction of peace, and the entitlements of the humanitarian file to extend the truce a miserable attempt will bounce back on its owners, “Bala”.

Al-Ajri warned of what he described as regional repercussions, in the event that the siege and aggression continued, and the war returned.
