Oil Spill in Aden Port Reported

Experts have warned of an environmental disaster caused by an oil spill off Yemen’s southern port of Aden, Yemen News Portal reported based on testimonies of sources familiar with the issue.

Workers at the port of Aden reported that a large area off the port had been contaminated by an oil spill originating from a ship called “Athena” belonging to the  businessman Ahmed Al-Essi.

The leak is the second of its kind within a year, when the oil tanker Dia sank in July last year in the same port, polluting Aden’s shores and killing tons of fish, with impunity.
