Angry Protests Inside UAE-run Prisons in Shabwa

An angry protest rally was organized on Wednesday by dozens of prisoners inside one of the UAE-run prisons in Ataq city, the Shabwa capital, YPA reported.

Human rights sources said the rally that took place in the central prison of the city came due to the violations committed by the UAE-backed militia against the prisoners since the beginning of this year.

The sources confirmed that the militia assaulted the prisoners by beating, and a huge fire broke out inside the prison, indicating that the prisoners and detainee’s broke doors and windows to denounce torture and inhumane treatment.

There are UN and human rights reports condemning the UAE militia for committing grave violations against prisoners and detainees, including sexual assaults, in its various prisons in the southern provinces, the sources added.
