UN Announce Failure to Extend Truce in Yemen

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the failure to extend and expand the nationwide truce in Yemen, which expired on Sunday evening.

This came in a statement issued by the Office of the UN Envoy in which he stressed the continuation of work and relentless efforts to engage with the parties to quickly reach an agreement on a way forward.

The UN Special Envoy expressed regret that an agreement has not been reached today, as an extended and expanded truce would provide additional critical benefits to the population.

As negotiations continue, the UN Special Envoy called on the parties to maintain calm and refrain from provocations or any actions that could lead to an escalation of violence.
