The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Hodeida province said that the coalition destroyed Hodeida International Airport, explaining that the damage affected “the entire airport buildings and halls, the tower, the fire and rescue stations, electricity and control stations, the airport wall, the landing and take-off runways, and the dock.”

The authority explained in a press conference that the contract held at the airport and came in conjunction with the 78th anniversary of the International Civil Aviation Day. The cost of what have been destroyed amounted to about 22 million and 450 thousand dollars, referring to what the airport represents on the economic and social level and what it offers with a capacity of 800,000 passengers annually.

The statement of the General Authority of Civil Aviation considered that “three flights per week to and from Sana’a International Airport are not sufficient to meet the needs of Yemenis to travel abroad,” denouncing at the same time the “continuation of the blockade on the movement of travelers to and from the Republic of Yemen.”

The statement called on the United Nations and the International Civil Aviation Organizations (ICAO) to fulfill their duties and assume their responsibilities regarding the violations that occur to civil aviation in the Republic of Yemen, and work in accordance with the rules and provisions of international humanitarian law and human rights that have approved the protection and preservation of basic human rights.
