TV report: Eritrean forces committed over 7,000 crimes against Yemeni fishermen during the war

According to a TV report, the Red Sea General Fisheries Authority confirmed that Eritrean authorities have abducted over 7,000 fishermen in Yemeni territorial waters and the Red Sea since 2015, including 1,632 fishermen from Yemen in just the past two years.

According to the Al-Araby Al-Jadeed channel report, Eritrean authorities abducted 882 Yemeni fishermen in 2021 and 750 in 2022 by forces affiliated with the same authority.

In the report, it was said that “the fishermen who were kidnapped were exploited inhumanely for profit.” Hashim Al- Danei, the head of the authority, was quoted as saying that “the Eritrean authorities did not issue a clear and explicit statement justifying their kidnapping of Yemeni fishermen.”

The report emphasized that “the eight-year war in Yemen targeted the security system and maritime security elements of the Republic of Yemen, including boats and coastal guard capabilities.”
