Abdul Salam: “Assuming responsibility” is exemplified by what the Sana’a Navy engineers did in relation to the Safer Tanker

Head of the Sana’a delegation to political negotiations Mohammed Abdul Salam said on Tuesday that the Safer tanker maintenance work performed by their Navy forces engineers in 2020 is “an example of the Yemeni government in Sana’a assuming its national and legal responsibility towards the marine environment.”

Sana’a – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

In a tweet, Abdul Salam noted that the actions taken by engineers from the Sana’a naval forces to save the Safer tanker in 2020 through “multiple stages to prevent it from sinking or oil leakage” are an illustration of how the Yemeni government in Sana’a is fulfilling its national and legal obligations to protect the local, regional, and global marine environment.

Today, Sana’a unveiled the steps of the operation carried out by its naval forces to prevent the sinking of the floating tank Safer in 2020 after it began to leak at that time.

A press conference was held by the Sana’a-affiliated “Supervisory Committee for the Implementation of the Safer Agreement,” which clarified that the rescue plan consisted of three stages, beginning with temporary treatments for the leakage and then ending with the complete closure of water ingress and egress openings outside the vessel’s hull at a depth of 13 meters.

As the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces in Sana’a, Brigadier General Mansour Al-Saadi stated, “On May 28, 2020, our teams discovered water leakage into the engine rooms at a depth of 12 meters, and the situation was very critical,” adding that the coalition made it challenging to save the ship from sinking due to “preventing maintenance expenses and causing its condition to deteriorate.”
