Redirecting Chinese ships towards the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait

Yesterday, China compelled one of its companies to redirect its ships via the Red Sea.

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The Kelly Mangrao, a ship owned by the COSCO Shipping Company of the Chinese government, was redirected towards the Red Sea after passing around the Cape of Good Hope, according to tracking data on marine navigation.

The Chinese government did not provide details about these transformations, but their timing indicates an attempt by China to break American efforts to militarize the Red Sea.

Earlier this week, China dispatched a battleship to the Red Sea specifically to monitor the US aircraft carrier Eisenhower.

According to Chinese media, China asserts that navigation in the Red Sea is proceeding normally, and they have previously released graphs showing its ships sailing without objection.

China, according to its officials, considers that ending the escalation in the Red Sea requires a US decision to cease the war and the blockade on Gaza.

These developments confirm what Sana’a has been stating, that “navigation is safe in Yemeni lanes, except for ships heading to Israel or those associated with the occupation.”
