Hebrew Website: 1,600 Israeli soldiers suffer from post-traumatic stress disorders due to the war in Gaza

The Hebrew website “Walla” revealed in a report published on Tuesday that 1,600 soldiers from the Israeli occupation forces have experienced symptoms of psychological trauma as a result of the ongoing war in Gaza since October 7th of last year.

Follow-up – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The website stated that the Israeli army has been forced to discharge 250 soldiers from service due to the impact on their mental and psychological health since the start of the ground operation in Gaza.

The website further mentioned that 76% of the soldiers returned to the battlefield after receiving initial treatment in the field. However, nearly 1,000 of them have not shown any improvement so far and require further rehabilitation.

The website’s source pointed out that the soldiers who continue to experience symptoms will likely suffer from post-traumatic stress disorders at a later stage. Symptoms of battle shock have appeared in at least 1,600 soldiers within a span of two months.

Symptoms of combat shock can appear during or near a certain activity, and affected soldiers may experience, among other things, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, sudden blood pressure surge, uncontrollable body tremors, confusion, and loss of control.

The website also indicated that since the beginning of the war, approximately 760 requests for assistance have been submitted for mental reasons. However, not all applicants will necessarily be recognized as suffering from post-traumatic stress disorders due to the short period of time between the incident and the date of application, as the professional diagnosis may change later.

According to the website’s data, as of the beginning of 2023, 2,301 requests for psychological reasons have been identified, with 1,911 of them being related to post-traumatic stress disorder. The remaining requests were for other mental injuries.
