Britain begins withdrawing forces from eastern Yemen

Britain started withdrawing its forces from the eastern regions of Yemen on Sunday. This coincides with concerns rising over potential attacks by Sana’a.

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The British Foreign Office issued a statement urging its citizens in the eastern provinces of Yemen, including Socotra Island, to leave immediately.

The Foreign Office indicated in its statement that it has suspended consular support in Yemen.

The British directive comes a few days after the Supreme Political Council in Sana’a declared British interests in the region as targets, along with American interests, in response to the recent attack that targeted the capital Sana’a and other cities.

Britain retains special units in eastern Yemen, specifically in Socotra and Al-Mahrah.

The Foreign Office’s directive signals a message to those units operating within the Saudi-Emirati coalition forces under the pretext of securing protection in the Arabian Sea.

The British warnings indicate mounting concerns within the government that retaliatory operations from Yemen could target its bases in the east of the country.

Britain had suspended its participation in the American aggression against Yemen just one day after its involvement, amid reports of disagreements with America and others related to the cessation of logistical support in Cyprus.
