A UN official in the Gaza Strip expressed his concern about the intensification of fighting near hospitals in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip.
Palestine Today Agency quoted the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator in Gaza, Thomas White, in a statement, saying: “The continued attacks on civilian sites in Khan Yunis are absolutely unacceptable,” calling for an immediate halt to the war waged by the Zionist enemy in Gaza.
White added: “Civilians are being killed and injured, and as the fighting intensified around hospitals and shelters hosting displaced people, they became trapped inside, and life-saving operations were hampered.”
He stressed that the situation in Khan Yunis confirms the continuing failure to respect the basic principles of international humanitarian law, saying, “This is unacceptable and abhorrent and must stop.”
The UN coordinator called for the necessity of taking all measures to protect civilians, emphasizing that “the protection of hospitals, clinics, medical staff, and UN facilities is clearly stipulated in international law.”
