War pushes Gazans to drink sewage

Some Gazans are forced to drink sewage and eat animal feed, a World Health Organization high-ranking official said on Tuesday, calling for immediate increased aid access to the besieged enclave.

Hanan Balkhi, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, warned that the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip “has an indirect impact on healthcare across the region.”

She added that inside the Strip: “There are people who are now eating animal food, eating grass, drinking sewage.” “The children barely get food, while the trucks are parked outside Rafah,” she said.

The United Nations warns that famine is looming in Gaza, where half the population faces catastrophic levels of food insecurity.
