The Palestinian Ministry of Education said on Tuesday that 4,851 students have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli war on the territory on October 7.
The ministry said in a statement that the number of wounded school students reached 8,227, while during the same period 44 students were killed in the West Bank and 287 were wounded, while 44 students were arrested, according to the Arab World News Agency. The ministry also noted that 239 school teachers were killed and 836 injured in the Gaza Strip.
The ministry indicated that 620,000 students in the Gaza Strip are still unable to go to school since October 7, in light of the continuation of the Israeli war on the Strip and the destruction of 351 schools, including 286 public schools and 65 schools belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
The ministry said 133 schools were currently being used as shelters for displaced people.
Israel continues its repeated aggression against Gaza’s schools, hospitals, and universities in flagrant violation of international humanitarian norms.
