CNN: Netanyahu is considering displacing residents of northern

CNN published a report prepared by Mick Craver and Eugene Youssef, in which they said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is thinking of forcing all residents of the besieged northern Gaza Strip to leave it, including Gaza City, in order to impose a siege on Hamas and force it to release prisoners. It is not known how many Palestinians remain in northern Gaza, or what Israel calls the Netzarim Corridor, which separates the north of the besieged enclave from its south. The plan did not mention how long the residents of the north would remain away and how they would return.

A year after the war, no place in the Gaza Strip is immune from Israeli airstrikes, and residents of the north are expected to be reluctant to heed Israeli orders. A number of retired generals from the Israeli army have presented the idea and have formally presented it to the government and a powerful parliamentary committee. The goal, they say, is to use a siege to deprive Hamas of fighters and force it to give up 100 Israeli prisoners it is holding. “Those who leave will get food and water,” says Giora Eiland, the retired general who is the public face of the proposal, in a well-produced video posted online.

However, the northern Gaza area, he says, “will turn into a military zone within a week, and from the report of CNN view, no supplies will enter this military zone.”
