400,000displaced people crossed from Lebanon to Syria in two weeks

The Lebanese government’s Disaster Risk Management Unit announced that more than 400,000 people had crossed from Lebanon into Syria, the majority of them Syrians, in two weeks, since Israel intensified its raids on various areas in Lebanon.

The unit said, in a report on Monday, that “from September 23 to October 5, the Lebanese General Security recorded the crossing of 300 thousand and 774 Syrian citizens and 102 thousand and 283 Lebanese citizens to Syrian territory.”

Earlier in the day, human rights group Human Rights Watch said recent Israeli strikes on the main border crossing between Lebanon and Syria were hampering the flight of displaced people and hampering humanitarian aid operations, warning that they put civilians at “grave risk”.
