“The situation in Gaza is appalling and catastrophic,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Monday at a conference in Cairo to speed up the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave devastated by the 13-month war.
In a speech read by Deputy Amina Mohammed, Guterres said: “The Gaza catastrophe is nothing but a complete collapse of all of humanity. The nightmare must stop. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye. It’s time to act.”
The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations added during her speech at the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Strengthen Humanitarian Response in Gaza, “Famine is looming in the Gaza Strip,” noting that Israel is hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
She pointed out that international law and international humanitarian law must be adhered to in the Gaza Strip.
