The bitter cold hits the nearly two million Palestinians who have been displaced by the Israeli war, while a baby girl died from the cold, according to Palestinian media.
On Friday, 20-day-old Aisha Adnan Sufyan al-Qassas died as a result of extreme cold inside a tent in the Mawasi Khan Yunis area, Palestinian media reported.
Many Palestinians have struggled for 14 months to protect themselves from wind, hail and rain amid bitter cold in the territory. There is a shortage of blankets and warm clothes, and a bit of wood to make a fire, and the tents and tarpaulins in which families live are becoming increasingly worn out after months of heavy use, according to aid workers and residents.
The United Nations warns that people living in makeshift shelters may not survive the winter. The United Nations, in an update on Tuesday, said at least 945,000 people needed winter supplies, which have become expensive in Gaza.
The UN also fears that infectious diseases, which spread last winter, could spread again amid rising malnutrition.
