The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of 4 newborns due to cold and low temperatures during the past 72 hours in the Gaza Strip, in light of the continuation of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip for the 447th consecutive day.
Dr. Ayed Al-Farra, director of the neonatal unit at Nasser Medical Complex, said these babies were extremely vulnerable due to their premature birth, making them particularly vulnerable to low temperatures.
He added that the hospital receives five to six cases of hypothermia in newborns every day, all of which require immediate intervention.
The lack of adequate resources and medical facilities in the collapsing health system in the Gaza Strip contributes to the increased vulnerability of these children, especially those born prematurely.
Dr. Kara stressed the acute shortage of ventilators necessary to support children suffering from shortness of breath, a problem exacerbated by Israel’s destruction of 80 per cent of Gaza’s health infrastructure.
