After more than 14 months of war on Gaza, the Israeli army continues to target Palestinian medical staff, in a series of killings, arrests, torture and disappearances that have affected many doctors and nurses.

The most recent of these incidents was the death of Thabat Ibrahim Muhammad Salim (31 years old), a volunteer doctor at Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah city in the central Gaza Strip, at noon on January 5, 2025.

Since the beginning of the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip more than 14 months ago, the Israeli military has continuously targeted Palestinian hospitals, disrupting many of them from providing basic health care to the sick and wounded.

The Israeli occupation attacks were not limited to health facilities only, but also included medical staff who were arrested and tortured, as a number of doctors and nurses were victims of these attacks, and perhaps Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who has been forcibly disappeared since December 27, 2024, is the best witness to this after he refused to respond to calls for forced evacuation of the hospital, in a step that reflected the mounting pressure on the collapsing health sector in Gaza.
