UNRWA warns of an Israeli ban threatening its essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees

Gaza – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

Juliet Touma, Director of Communications and Media at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warned of the implications of an impending ban by the Israeli occupation government, which will prevent the agency from providing its services to millions of Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Touma, in an interview with Ireland’s RTE radio and television, said, “Time is running out to impose a potential ban on the agency, which will disrupt the provision of essential services that Palestinian refugees in the occupied territories depend on.”

She stressed that the UN doesn’t plan to replace the agency, calling on the Knesset to back down from the decision.

It is worth noting that the Knesset voted last October in favor of a decision to ban UNRWA’s work in the areas under occupation, and it is scheduled to come into effect in less than a month, which threatens to create a severe humanitarian crisis for Palestinian refugees who depend on the agency for education, health care, and food aid.
