The UN Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, revealed on Saturday his position on the US decision to designate the Ansar Allah movement on the sanctions list.
This comes before its official implementation in the coming weeks.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Grundberg said during his latest briefing to the Security Council that it is important to protect his efforts to push the peace process forward, calling for clarification on the US decision.
The UN Envoy considered the decision as exacerbating the suffering of Yemenis in providing basic needs, which cannot be ended without peace, in addition to emphasizing the need to implement the roadmap and maintain the mediation space and address the economic crisis.
Grundberg indicated that the US decision may ignite the war with the escalation of confrontations on seven internal fronts, warning that the scope of confrontations may expand regionally, seemingly referring to the Yemeni attacks against Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The UN Security Council held two sessions last weekend, one open and the other closed, to review developments in the Yemen file.
The UN Envoy considered Sana’a’s decision to stop maritime operations and release the crew of the Israeli ship Galaxy Leader as a positive step that should be built upon to move forward with a peace agreement in Yemen.
Yemen has witnessed an escalating tension in recent weeks in light of the US decision to designate the Ansar Allah movement on the sanctions list.
The decision would cut off any political paths to resolve the crisis, in addition to pushing Yemen towards military steps to retaliate.
The UN envoy rejects the American categorization of the “Houthis” as undermining peace and exacerbating suffering, and a cause of a regional war
