The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that telecommunications services were restored across Gaza earlier this week after damaged fiber optic cables were repaired. OCHA warned that without urgent fuel supplies for the generators that power communications equipment, communications could soon be cut off.
In its latest update, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that for the first time in days, UN teams had relatively stable communications for more than 24 hours, reiterating the importance of communications for coordinating emergency relief and saving lives. OCHA emphasized that fuel is essential for the operation of emergency rooms, ambulances, and desalination and pumping stations.
It added that field teams are currently rationing the remaining fuel and restoring stocks inside Gaza, in hard-to-reach areas.
OCHA stressed the need for the Israeli authorities to facilitate the movement of sufficient fuel into and throughout Gaza, including to and within the north, where fuel movement is often blocked.
