A medical official in Gaza warns of the shutdown of hospitals and the spread of meningitis

The director of field hospitals at the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, warned that the remaining main hospitals will stop working, pointing to the rationing of medical supplies due to the acute shortage.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Al-Hams described the cases of the injured that arrive in hospitals from aid distribution centers as critical, revealing that intensive care rooms are full.

The wounded arriving from aid distribution centers had injuries in the upper half of the body, he said, noting severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies. Yesterday, the government media office in Gaza said that the number of victims of aid seekers by Israeli fire had risen to 580 martyrs, more than 4,000 wounded and 39 missing.

In light of this catastrophic situation, the Ministry of Health has resorted to rationing the use of medical supplies, as what is needed for one patient is divided into two or three patients, according to Al-Hams.

The medical official also warned of the spread of meningitis in the area “if the situation continues as it is.”

The Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis9, southern Gaza, announced a record number of meningitis cases among children, with 35 confirmed cases reported. Doctors warned about the danger of the disease to children’s mental abilities and senses, noting that the extreme overcrowding in the displacement tents and weakened immune systems due to malnutrition accelerate the spread of infection.
