UN strongly condemns the loss of civilian lives in Gaza

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed alarm over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. He strongly condemned the loss of civilian life, noting that multiple attacks in recent days on sites sheltering displaced persons and people trying to obtain food have resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of Palestinians.

Guterres reiterated his call for full, safe, and sustained humanitarian access so that aid can reach those who have been deprived of the basic necessities of life for far too long. He emphasized that the United Nations has a clear and proven plan, rooted in humanitarian principles, to deliver vital aid safely and on a large scale to civilians, wherever they are.

The Secretary-General reiterated the need for all parties to abide by their obligations under international law. He reiterated his call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
