A rocket falls on children in Gaza. Israel justifies it by saying, “The cause was a malfunction.”

Gaza officials said at least eight people, most of them children, were killed and more than 12 wounded in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday in an Israeli missile strike, which the military said was caused by a rocket that misfired.

The Israeli military said it was targeting a militant in the area, but the rocket malfunctioned, causing it to land “tens of meters from its target.”

“The IDF regrets any harm caused to civilians,” it said in a statement, adding that the incident is under review.

A doctor in the emergency department at Al-Awda Hospital said the strike hit a water distribution site in the Nuseirat refugee camp, killing six children and wounding 17.
