UN Secretary-General António Guterres stressed that hunger should not be used as a “weapon of war,” citing the situations in the Gaza Strip and Sudan in particular.
In a video address on Monday during the UN Food Systems Conference in Ethiopia, Guterres said, “Conflicts continue to spread hunger in Gaza, Sudan, and elsewhere. Hunger fuels instability and undermines peace. We must never accept the use of hunger as a weapon of war.”
“Climate change disrupts crops, supply chains, and humanitarian assistance, and conflict continues to spread hunger from Gaza to Sudan and beyond,” Guterres said in his remarks.
