The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, confirmed that many people repeat prevailing narratives about Hamas without any real knowledge of the movement. She pointed out that Hamas is a political force that came to power after winning elections described as the most democratic.
She added that the movement established schools, public institutions, and hospitals and was the de facto authority in Gaza. She emphasized that Hamas is not a group of murderers or heavily armed fighters, as some portray it.
The UN Special Rapporteur has previously accused more than 60 international companies, including well-known arms and technology companies, of supporting Israeli military operations in Gaza and settlements in the West Bank.
