UNRWA: Israel has not allowed aid into Gaza despite the declaration of famine

Adnan Abu Hasna, media advisor to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said that the occupation has not allowed any aid into the Gaza Strip since the United Nations officially declared the Strip a famine zone.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Abu Hasna confirmed that the occupation government did not respond to this declaration, the first of its kind in the Middle East, nor to the international movement that accompanied it. However, he stressed the need to continue international action accompanying the famine declaration.

He pointed to the possibility of legal action before the International Court of Justice, which has previously obliged Israel not to push Gaza into a state of famine. He stated that the failure to respect these orders is what has brought the Strip to the catastrophe it is experiencing.

Abu Hasna considered that Israel’s continued disregard for these international resolutions and denial of the famine “means the collapse of all human values and the world falling into the clutches of a new kind of barbarism.”
