The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip warned of catastrophic challenges facing medical staff due to the worsening crisis of severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies. This comes as the Israeli occupation continues to undermine the delivery of medical supplies to hospitals in the Strip, while the strict closure of crossings has continued since last March.
The ministry said in a statement on Tuesday: “Catastrophic challenges face the work of medical staff due to the worsening crisis of shortages of medicines and medical supplies.”
It added that “the occupation’s intransigence in preventing the arrival of emergency medical supplies to hospitals exacerbates the health conditions of patients and the wounded.”
The Ministry of Health called on all concerned parties to take urgent action to ensure safe access to medical supplies and prevent the collapse of health services.
The ministry confirmed that the severe shortage of pharmaceutical supplies coincides with the direct and deliberate targeting of the health sector by the Israeli occupation army, which has bombed, destroyed, or put out of service 38 hospitals and 96 healthcare centers, in addition to destroying or disabling 197 ambulances since October 7, 2023, according to the latest data issued by the government media office in Gaza.
