The US Navy conceals “severe” damage to the aircraft carrier “Truman” from Trump

The US Navy concealed a massive, 8-month-old hole in the aircraft carrier “USS Harry S. Truman” using a large flag during Donald Trump’s visit to the Naval Station “Norfolk” in “Virginia” on October 5th.

A picture taken by an attendee during the hour-long tour with service members showed how the flag was used to hide the damage and prevent it from appearing in front of the camera, while the photo later spread on the “Reddit” website, documenting the location of the covered damage.

The damage stems from a collision incident that occurred in February off the Egyptian coast between the “Truman” and the commercial cargo ship “Beshiktas-M.” The US Navy described the damage at the time as “cosmetic,” stating that the ship continued its air operations after the incident, but the ship’s captain, Capt. “Dave Snowden,” was dismissed from his position.

Although the “Truman” continued its mission in the Red Sea until June, it lost three F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets during that period, one of them in a “friendly fire” incident.

The photos show that the Navy later painted over the damage to match the color of the ship’s hull in an apparent attempt to hide the trace of the collision before Trump’s speech.
