Resuming education will bring hope, recovery, and continuity amidst the devastation.
Getting children across the Gaza Strip back on track with learning is our priority. Failure to do so will only foster further despair and radicalization.
Prior to the ceasefire, over 60,000 children benefited from temporary learning spaces established by UNRWA in community shelters for internally displaced persons.
These spaces provided opportunities for basic learning and recreational activities, offering children some respite from the horrors of war.
With the ceasefire in place, we are expanding the number of these spaces to provide informal education in accessible areas.
With winter approaching, we urgently need to bring in thousands of tents and plastic sheeting to protect children from the harsh cold.
In parallel, nearly 300,000 children will receive basic literacy and numeracy lessons remotely, supported by UNRWA teachers.
Throughout the war, our staff have kept our promise: UNRWA continues.
But we need more to restore education in the Gaza Strip.
Most school buildings have been destroyed or severely damaged.
Rebuilding and restoring them will require time and resources.
We have no time to waste.
Education cannot wait.
