Nine European countries demand the opening of Gaza crossings and the guarantee of a ceasefire

Nine European Union countries bordering the Mediterranean called on Monday for the opening of crossings to humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and for compliance with the ceasefire agreement.

Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golube said during a press conference following the Med9 summit in the coastal city of Portorož that the participating countries “demand the immediate release of all humanitarian aid destined for Gaza.”

Golube added that “there is absolutely no justification for preventing the delivery of this humanitarian aid,” stressing the need for the “Israeli government to open the Rafah crossing and other border crossings to ensure the entry of aid into the Strip.”

He emphasized that the group is also seeking to ensure safe access for the media to Gaza, noting that compliance with the ceasefire agreement must be “full,” including the possibility of deploying observers on the ground.
