Thousands of martyrs under the rubble of Gaza… Civil Defense: We appeal to the world to take urgent action!

The Civil Defense Authority in the Gaza Strip issued an urgent appeal on Wednesday, highlighting the catastrophic situation in the Strip and calling on the international community to provide international protection for civilians, rescue teams, and medical personnel in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

The Authority also demanded the opening of safe humanitarian corridors to allow the entry of fuel, equipment, and essential supplies for rescue teams and hospitals.

The Civil Defense announced that more than 100 people, including about 35 children, were killed in less than 12 hours as a result of Israeli army shelling.

In the context of the rescue teams’ work, Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal confirmed that rescue operations to recover martyrs and the wounded from under the rubble are continuing despite the severe shortage of resources. He stated that the teams are exerting tremendous efforts to reach those trapped beneath the debris.

Bassal warned that hospitals are overcrowded with the wounded and those in critical condition, amidst “tragic conditions and a severe shortage of medical supplies and fuel.” He considered what is happening in Gaza today to be “a disgrace to humanity,” highlighting that “the international community has become complicit through its silence in these violations.”
