Israeli army launches new airstrikes on Gaza

Palestinian residents and witnesses said Israeli warplanes and tanks shelled areas in eastern Gaza today, despite Israel’s stated commitment to the US-backed ceasefire.

Israel announced it remained committed to the ceasefire despite intensifying its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which resulted in casualties.

Witnesses reported that Israeli aircraft carried out 10 airstrikes on areas east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, while tanks shelled areas east of Gaza City in the north. There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities.

The Israeli military said it carried out “precise” airstrikes on “threatening infrastructure” sites in areas still under Israeli occupation.

Thursday’s attacks represent the latest test of the fragile ceasefire agreement that went into effect on October 10.
