Gaza Municipality: More than 260,000 tons of waste have piled up in the streets

The Gaza Municipality stated on Saturday that its teams are continuing their tireless efforts to mitigate the health and environmental disaster plaguing the city due to the accumulation of over 260,000 tons of waste in its streets and landfills.

The municipality added, “Our teams are continuing to carry out initial waste collection and street cleaning despite limited resources.”

It further stated, “The Gaza Municipality is facing a genuine crisis as a result of the Israeli occupation’s destruction of approximately 85% of its vehicles and the lack of new equipment for waste collection and other services.

Moreover, municipal teams have been prevented from accessing the main landfill east of the city for nearly two years.”
