Today, a commercial ship flying the Maltese flag was subjected to an armed attack off the Somali coast, according to an announcement by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The authority stated that “attackers fired machine guns and RPG rounds before boarding the ship,” indicating that the attack occurred off the coast of Somalia.
The UKMTO issued an alert regarding the incident, warning ships in the area of the danger of attacks.
For its part, the “Ambrey” company, specialized in maritime transport monitoring, reported that “the targeted ship is a tanker that was on its way from Sikka, India, to Durban, South Africa,” and suggested that the perpetrators of the attack were “a group of Somali pirates.”
This attack comes at a time when the region is witnessing an increase in maritime piracy activities, prompting international entities to issue repeated warnings to ships operating in these waters.
