Calls in Gaza for international teams to be allowed in to recover the bodies of the missing

Local leaders in the Gaza Strip issued an appeal on Thursday to the international community to provide the necessary resources to recover the bodies of those missing as a result of the Israeli aggression.

Alaa al-Aklouk, a representative of the National Authority for Missing Persons in Gaza, called on the international community to allow the entry of international teams and the necessary equipment to remove the rubble.

During a press conference in Gaza City on Thursday, al-Aklouk expressed his condemnation of the international community’s double standards in dealing with the bodies of missing Palestinians, and called for the establishment of laboratories to examine the recovered remains.

Al-Aklouk noted the commission’s shock at the inaction of international organizations regarding missing Palestinians, estimating that approximately ten thousand bodies remain buried under the rubble of destroyed homes.

Ahmed Masoud, head of the Palestinian Center for Missing Persons in Gaza, stated that the United Nations and relevant countries must establish a neutral mechanism to recover the remains of the missing, emphasizing that thousands of Palestinians lie unburied and unidentified under the rubble, a violation of human rights.

Last May, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) quoted the Palestinian Civil Defense as saying that more than 10,000 people were missing under the rubble.

According to UN estimates, approximately 92% of homes in the Gaza Strip were damaged or destroyed, amounting to roughly 436,000 homes.
