OCHA: Hundreds of thousands of families in Gaza face the threat of cold and rain

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned of a deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip as winter approaches, given the continued widespread destruction of infrastructure and homes caused by Israel’s offensive on the territory. The World Health Organization (WHO) also called for the unimpeded flow of aid.

OCHA stated that hundreds of thousands of families in Gaza are facing the threat of cold and rain without access to even the most basic protection, including shelter, winter clothing, and heating.

The office further explained that only 4% of the agricultural land in the Gaza Strip remains undamaged and accessible, while infrastructure and housing remain extensively destroyed.

Earlier, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, confirmed that the scale of the urgent humanitarian, food, and medical needs of the population is “enormous, given that obstacles have not been removed quickly enough since the ceasefire.”
